Daily encounters, working together and enjoying our time are an essential part of everyday life at Avarrus, in our office in Punavuori, Helsinki.

Avarrus is a Helsinki-based architecture office founded in 2008. Our mission is to create architecture that delights our clients, building users and passers-by alike. Our Punavuori office is home to a team of 15 professionals who want to help develop new ways of creating buildings and spaces that last longer, adapt more easily and use resources more sustainably.

Alongside sustainable new construction, we specialise in renovation and changes of use—from restoring an 18th-century log cottage in Vanhakaupunki to converting Sörnäinen’s Kansa-talo into a hotel.

Avarrus is guided by collaboration, quality and sustainability. Whether the project is a private home or an urban planning scheme, we believe an architecture office should be an agile, approachable partner whose collaboration is smooth regardless of the project’s scale. When challenges arise, our open working community is our strength: there are always colleagues around us to help find solutions together.

We begin every project with a commitment to a high-quality outcome: homes should be easy to furnish, structures repairable and surface materials able to stand the test of time. Our standard is high, and it has been recognised in everything from an Architecture Finlandia nomination to editorials in Helsingin Sanomat and Monocle.

Our projects vary, but beneath that diversity lies distinct expertise. We know a great deal about mass construction and natural ventilation, and have strong experience in development. The mass-brick apartment building Helsingin Muurarimestari, which we developed in Oulunkylä, is a fine example: it brings many of our ambitions together in sustainable new construction.

We are members of the Finnish Green Building Council and the Association of Finnish Architects’ Offices (ATL). Avarrus works with a wide range of construction-industry clients, from the smallest to the largest.
