Projects Under Construction: Autumn 2026

This autumn will keep us busy with several projects already under construction as well as new sites breaking ground. The projects range from new residential developments to renovation and adaptive reuse schemes. Among them is also a demolition project, as work begins on the former Café Ursula building.

QIVA Haaga – An Adaptable Mixed-Use Block in South Haaga

Developed together with SSA, the block comprises Haaga's former elementary school and three new residential buildings being constructed on the same site. Interior demolition and conversion works are currently underway in the former school building, known as Villa Stenius, which is being transformed into housing. At the same time, excavation works for an underground parking facility are progressing in the courtyard to serve both the existing and new buildings.

Leirimetsäntie 8 – New Right-of-Occupancy Homes in Espoo

On the edge of a woodland setting, three residential buildings inspired by the architecture of the 1950s have now taken shape. The development will provide 57 new right-of-occupancy homes for Asuntosäätiö and is scheduled for completion later this year. Apartment sizes range from compact two-room homes to larger family apartments.

As Oy Saarenhelmi – Hitas Housing in Nihti

Construction works are being completed on our residential building in the emerging waterfront district of Nihti. The brick-clad Hitas development contains 41 apartments ranging in size from 31 to 119 m². Located at the corner of Konttisatamankatu and Tihtaalinkatu, the building will eventually be complemented by a neighbouring block planned for the adjacent site. The project is being developed by Kilo Invest Oy and built by Fira Rakennus.

KY Kauppatieteiden Ylioppilaat – Student Union Facilities in Otaniemi

A former red-brick building from the 1960s is currently being extended and renovated to provide new facilities for the student union of the Aalto University School of Business.

Café Ursula

On 26 August 2026, we visited the former Café Ursula for one final lunch before the building begins its next chapter. The existing structure will be replaced by a new timber building on the site. Furniture and movable items from the café have been donated to various organisations and community groups. The iconic sail designed by Roy Mänttäri has been carefully stored for restoration and will return to the new terrace in 2027.
